Chihuahua: A Devoted and Loyal Pet

Chihuahua

Chihuahua is the oldest dog breed in America, has a very fine structure of bones but very well developed muscles and their name comes from the region of Chihuahua in Mexic. The owners of dogs of this breed of unique personality, very full of energy and also grace, having all along their fifteen years life – the longest life-span of any dog breeds – a human-like expression, are often caressing it “Chi”.

The Very Small But Very Good Watchdog

The dogs of this breed are closely attached to their master from whom they solicitate a lot of attention and who consider them to be loyal and very devoted companions. The Chihuahua is bold and fearless and will guard its master to a high degree of protectiveness even though its nature is gentle as well as loving and it has a good temper but is suspicious of strangers and so, makes good watchdogs. They don’t get close to children and don’t agree dogs from other breeds though are very sociable with their own kind.

The Chihuahua is well known for its large eyes as well as diminutive size and large, erect ears and there are two varieties of the Chihuahua – that of the long coat as well as one that is smooth coated. The coat of both long coated and short coated varieties of Chihuahua is composed of very thin and dense hair. There are no breed standards that define the Chihuahua’s height though the weight and overall proportions have been defined, resulting in different height dogs, more than for other breeds.

Any size of house can be home for a small Chihuahua dog, which is alert and inteligent, has a strong personality and manifests devotion to its master, who cherish it. The Chihuahua may be thought of as being high-strung but with proper training as well as socialization, it can become a remarkable companion though it may not be ideal for children even though they become very attached to one single person that may even lead to jealousy on its part. The Chihuahua is also clannish and likes only its own breed dogs and is brave creatures that are not afraid to accost larger animals even at the expense of sustaining injuries.

Chihuahua needs constant veterinary attention for its teeth, while giving birth, or in the case of genetic anomalies, like epilepsy or seizure disorders. Hydrocephalus, collapsing trachea and patella luxation are common diseases among these dogs.

Chihuahuas have a clear tendency to overweighting but they only like quality food that they use to pick, even to be choosy.

Chihuahua are appreciated for their small size, they are named mini or pocket sized dogs, tiny toy or teacup, as signs of love from the part of their masters who cherish them. When one does eventually own a Chihuahua one can expect a loyal and devoted pet that is somewhat noisy and aggressive towards other dogs, especially those of other breeds. All in all, if properly trained and socialized, this breed makes a very good and affectionate pet dog. There are many sources of information about the history and origin of Chihuahua.

The Chihuahua are dogs of extremes: they are the smallest dogs, the oldest breed in America and also the longer living. They are good watchdogs because they are suspicous with strangers, bold and fearless and, generaly, a noisy breed. With good training, Chihuahua becomes a very devoted and cherished companion, but is not suitable for families having small children
