Chihuahua Behavior – Sweet or Sour?

Chihuahua behavior ranges from wonderful to awful in different dogs. How could this be and what can be done about it?

The Chihuahua is the smallest of any dog breed. But as you know, small doesn’t mean no personality. Chihuahuas are full of personality, sometimes good and sometimes difficult. Is there a way to insure that your Chihuahua is pleasant to live with? Consider these tips.

Tip 1: Remember about size.
How would you feel if you were 6 pounds and ten inches tall in a world of giants? Tiny dogs are full of fear and rightly so. Especially while your tiny pup is young, protect the puppy from any very frightening experiences. A fearful puppy can grow to be a neurotic adult. Remembering about size is a big part of Chihuahua care.

Tip 2: Set goals.
What kind of Chihuahua behavior do you desire? Clearly define what you wish your dog to do and not do. How can you train if you do not have goals?

Tip 3: Your dog wants to please.
A Chihuahua is hard-wired to please you. Don’t doubt that your dog wishes to please. It’s just a matter of communicating what your wishes are and guiding your dog in the right direction.

Tip 5: Gentle all the way.
Some dogs may be able to handle a heavy-handed approach, but not a Chihuahua. You must always be gentle when training a Chihuahua. To do otherwise may have the opposite result from what you want.

Tip 6: Get help.
Chihuahua training mistakes can be hard to correct. You can easily make your Chihuahua behavior problems worse when you make mistakes. Get professional training help if you continue to have problems. Don’t give up on your training goals.

A Chihuahua dog wants to do what you want. It’s just a matter of using the correct training approach.
