My chihuahua only obeys me and my mom. (...)

My chihuahua only obeys me and my mom. She hates everyone else and I want her to be nice to other people, I try yelling at her when she tries snapping at other people, but she ALWAYS continues being mean. Is there a way to teaching her to be nice to people besides me? I don't want to keep her locked in a room if I have people over. People like her, but she doesn't like people.

She is frightened of people which is why she snaps.
Fear is displayed by, fighting: which is what she does and becomes agressive, flight: running away, freezing, standing still or laying down without moving and fooling around.

Put her on a lead when anyone comes to your house and ask them no to touch, look or talk to your dog whatever she does, this will start to take the pressure off her and within a short time she will settle down and be less fearful.
Once she doesn't growl at people allow her off lead and ask them to continue not to look, touch or talk to her, give them a couple of treat and tell them when she comes over to sniff, just to drop the treats onto the floor, make sure you put her back on the lead before they leave as the energy in the room changes when people come and go and she may start acting up again as dogs understand our world through the energy we give off, excited energy is negative energy in the dog world so she will disply fear again in the way she knows that works for her.

Do this for a few weeks with EVERY visitor and you can even set it up and have people call just to train this and don't push her too quickly, when you think it is going well don't push it any further stop when she is winning.

For people that love dogs, yet have allergic reactions to them, there is a simple alternative. (...)

For people that love dogs, yet have allergic reactions to them, there is a simple alternative. If you cannot do without a four legged friend, choosing a hypoallergenic dog is without doubt the best alternative. For those who are scratching their heads wondering what one of those is, a hypoallergenic dog is not a special breed of dog. They are dogs that generate less (hypo) allergens (allergenic) in the air, which has a lot to do with both the physical size and the length of fur of the dog.

For allergy sufferers, finding an allergy-friendly dog is probably the most sensible approach or choice. This does not mean that the dog will be completely allergy proof, but it does mean that this type of dog tends to generate less amounts of allergy causing elements. The reality is that it is impossible to find a dog that causes no degree of allergens.

Allergy reactions from dogs can consist of skin rashes, watery and itchy eyes, sneezing and a stuffy nose. More serious reactions are wheezing, asthma attacks and not being able to breathe deeply. Obviously these can be frightening reactions and choosing not to have a pet, for these reasons, clearly can outweigh the benefits of having one.

For dog lovers, who suffer with allergies that can be a very hard fact to accept. The reason some people suffer as a result of simple pet hair is because of their immune system. They are hypersensitive to the components found on the dog hair.

Many people think it is the animal hair that causes the problem, but in reality it is what attaches itself to the pet hair. The hair picks up pollen and dust attaching itself to the hair follicle. With normal movements of your dog, the elements are distracted on whatever it comes across. Hence, larger and longer haired dogs have a tendency to generate more allergens than smaller and shorter haired dogs. Therefore, the bigger the dog, the more allergy components it will distract.

If choosing a dog from a breeder, try spending at least 30 minutes playing with the dog and being in the area around the dog to see how you react to it. If you have a severe reaction in that short amount of time, then you can be pretty confident that having it as a live-in would not be a good idea.

If you are choosing a breeder who lives a substantial distance away, then one thing to consider is sending a clothing item to the breeder and asking them to place it near the dog for a day. Then get them to send it back to you in a plastic bag. Wear the clothing item or breathe in the smell and see how you react. If there is no reaction, you might want to consider visiting the breeder in person. If you do get a negative reaction, then it is best not to waste your time visiting in person. The allergic reaction would probably be worse if you were around the real thing.

Another thing you might want to consider when choosing a dog is the temperament. You want to choose a dog that will meet your needs, and be confident that you in turn, can meet their needs as well. Not only do you want to choose an allergy-friendly dog, but if you have a family, you want one that is family-friendly as well.

There are a few breeds you might want to consider: Bichon Frise, Irish Terrier and Poodles. These dogs enjoy being in family surroundings, they are considered to be excellent with children and they also make great watch dogs. Critically they also have low shedding levels. If you are a single adult, you might want to consider a dog that is happy with minimal people in their surroundings. In that situation a couple of good choices might be Chihuahua or a Portuguese Water Dog. These dogs tend to bond with one person rather than several.

There are a few dogs that you really want to stay away from because of their high shedding ability. These are Cocker Spaniels, Irish Setters, Dachshunds, Basset hounds, German Shepherds and Afghan Hounds.

If you choose an indoor dog, it is best to choose one that can be groomed regularly or that you can bath easily. It is best to bath them at least one or two times per week. This will reduce the amount of pet dander. Taking care of their hair is an important part of reducing the components that cause allergies. You can even choose a hairless dog such as the Chinese Crested, American Hairless Terrier or the Mexican Hairless.

Some people claim that certain breeds bring out the worst in their allergies than others. In choosing a breed, be open to finding the best one that suits you and also fits in with your lifestyle.

Are vitamin and mineral supplements that necessary for your pregnant dog? Yes. (...)

Are vitamin and mineral supplements that necessary for your pregnant dog? Yes. Besides a balanced and healthy diet, pregnant dogs that are into their fourth week of pregnancy need more vitamins and minerals in their system. Also, a balanced di-calcium phosphate may be needed to be added into their diet as well.

“Where should I purchase these dog supplements?”

Di-calcium phosphate tablets and vitamin/mineral supplements can be obtained from most veterinarians or animal hospitals, and even some grocery stores. Health food stores are common to carry these types of animal supplements as well, so you should not have too many problems trying to locate some for your dog.

“What forms do these prenatal supplements come in?”

Just like what is supplied for humans, vitamins and minerals for prenatal dogs are sold in both powder and tablet forms. A lot of dog owners get bothered over choosing the right kind of supplements for their dogs, but it is an individual choice for you and your dog. Regardless if its form, the quality of both types of supplements is the same.

“How do I know what dosage of supplement to administer to my pregnant dog?”

You will find the correct supplement for your dog by looking at the labels of the supplements. The correct supplement for your pregnant dog will be stated clearly, and there are supplements for matrons as well as puppies. It is very important that you realize that prenatal dog supplements have gone through lab testing before they are approved to be marketed and sold in stores. There will also be specific instructions on the labels on how to give the supplements to your dog regarding the dosages or stages of pregnancy.

Your dog may not be used to swallowing tablets, or the tablet may be too big for a dog its size. What you can do is crush the tablet up into powder form and then putting it into your dog’s food for it to consume. If your dog has no problems with swallowing tablets, like my Chihuahua for instance, who swallows tablets easily when I place it at the back of his throat, you may want to choose that. But powder form supplements is also a good choice if that is what your dog is better at ingesting.

This chihuahua is purebred (has no papers) and is 1 and a half years old (adult). She is three pounds and is very healthy and beautiful, amazing temperament, but has only had ONE set of shots (so she still needs two more sets of shots). The owner is my co-worker, and she has to get rid of the dog because she has only had it for four months and it is stressing out her other chihuahua. She got it straight from a breeder. She is asking $450 for the dog. Is this a reasonable price? What would you pay for this dog?
I also wanted to add that we've had the chi in our home for a week to test her out, and she is doing great, so I know that she has already bonded to us!

Also, we live in the New York City area, where chihuahua puppies usually run $800-$1600.

I wouldn't own a chihuahua.. but I think thats way too much for a dog that is that old and without papers! Look around for another one on craigslist and see what other people are asking.

The Pomeranian is one of the most lovable toy dogs on the planet and have become hugely popular in America. (...)

The Pomeranian is one of the most lovable toy dogs on the planet and have become hugely popular in America. The Pomeranian belongs to the family of dogs known as the Spitz who were first bred in the Pomerania region of Germany. This article will discuss everything there is to know about the Pomeranian so you can get to know this wonderful breed of dog more intimately.

The Origin of The Pomeranian

Believe it or not the Pomeranian actually originated from the sled dogs of Iceland. These dogs were eventually brought into Germany. Of course they were much larger dogs back then and were often used for work purposes like most animals in that day.

So when did the Pomeranian start taking the shape of the dogs we know so well today. Well, it was Queen Charlotte who first brought the Pomeranian into England and through trial and error, English breeders were able to bring this 20 pound dog down to the size of a healthy toy dog. It wasn't until the 19th century that the Pomeranian was first declared a modern breed of dog.

The Appearance of The Pomeranian

The average size of a typical Pomeranian is around 3 to 7lbs. The face of a Pomeranian closely resembles a fox, with a typical pointy snout and cat-like ears. Their tails are generally thick coated and usually only become this way once they reach maturity. The coat is orange with shades of black, white and grey. There are different types of Pomeranians such as the black and white Pomeranian whose color, like its name is only black and white in appearance.

Temperament

The Pomeranian is a very active dog that enjoys a lot of action. This comes from the days when they were first used as sled dogs when being fit and active was highly necessary. As you might also suspect, they are very loyal and are one of the best companion dogs around. Due to their tiny framed bodies, they are usually not the best dogs to have with small children. There is a possibility when playing too hard with a Pomeranian, may cause it to snap and bite on occasions. Because of this many people like to compare them to the Chihuahua, but the only time a Pomeranian will become aggressive is when it feels it is being threatened. They are generally friendly dogs that enjoy as much play as possible as long as it doesn't become too rough!

My chihuahua has a very annoying habit of taking food from her bowl and eating it on the living room carpet. She will take the food there, eat it, trot back to the kitchen to get another bite of food and then take it back to living room to eat it. Why can't she eat the food at the bowl like other dogs do? How can I stop her from doing this? There are food bits all over the carpet. When I yell at her about it she will drop the food and look pitiful. I tried to put a little fence around her and the food bowl but she will just sit there looking pitiful again for a very long time and not touch her food until I can't take it anymore and lift the fence. Then she will start to eat.

Almost every chihuahua I know does this, including mine. I put a soft furry matt in front of his food bowl and he doesn't do it anymore. I wouldn't scold her for it…she doesn't know what you're trying to tell her.

You've probably heard the old saying - I know that half of my advertising dollars are wasted, if I only knew which half! (...)

You've probably heard the old saying - I know that half of my advertising dollars are wasted, if I only knew which half! Although it's not possible to know all the factors that go into effective advertising, there are a few elements that are crucial to an ad campaign that is profitable. If you strive to achieve as many of the following 7 factors as possible, you can be confident that you'll have a winning campaign.

1) Choose an appropriate medium to convey your message. This is so obvious, but you'd be amazed at how many people don't use common sense when buying media. If you're trying to reach a 14 year old, don't buy an ad in the daily paper - buy the radio station that plays hip hop music! Try to target your advertising as much as possible. Think about the person you're trying to reach with your message. The more you know about that person, the easier this will be.

If you're selling clothing to working women, buying TV is probably not a good idea. They're probably so busy doing household chores and taking kids to various activities, they probably don't have time to watch much TV. But billboards and radio are great because she's probably on the road a lot and those media fit for that audience.

2) Don't believe that everyone uses media the way you or your spouse does. Just because you don't like a certain program on TV doesn't mean that your potential customer doesn't like it - they may be big fans and never miss an episode.

Don't assume that everyone reads the newspaper because everyone you know does. Ask for information about the medium's audience - let your rep show you exactly who is watching/reading/listening/driving by/surfing their medium.

3) Don't judge the price of the ad by the dollar amount alone. Just because an ad is expensive doesn't mean it isn't a good buy - and the opposite is true also. If an ad is cheap, but no one reads or sees it, it's worthless to you. If an ad is reaching tens of thousands of people for $1,000, it might be a good buy if those are the people who are in the market for your product.

Try to gauge the real value of an ad by the cost per thousand or cost per rating point (for TV, radio & cable). If you're not familiar with those terms, ask your ad rep - they will be happy to fill you in. (And if they aren't, find a new rep.)

4) Develop a relationship with your customers and prospects. This is another thing that should be obvious, but very few companies actually do this. Proctor and Gamble has found that this is what makes them money. And it makes sense. If people trust your brand and feel that they know your company, they're far more likely to buy your products. This is actually easier to do as a smaller business than a large one - and many local businesses have done this for years.

It may be schmaltzy, but when the local furniture store owner is on camera for all his TV commercials, people develop a relationship of sorts with him or her. They feel like they know that business. Anytime you can link a personality - even if it's not a celebrity - to a business, that makes that business stand out. This is an important element that there's not nearly enough room to cover - so think this one through for your business and come up with ways (and they can be very simple) to develop a relationship with your customers and prospects. An email newsletter is a simple, cheap and very effective way to do this, by the way.

5) Have a hook. Give people something that makes them remember you. Big companies spend millions on this - and for a good reason - it sells stuff. Whatever you do, don't say "for the best in service and quality" - no one will believe you! If you want to convey that message, have one of your customers give a testimonial on camera - have them describe how you provided them with great service and quality. Give details.

A hook needs to be simple, memorable and if possible, fun or heartwarming. The Taco Bell Chihuahua is a good example - the Pillsbury Doughboy is another one. Do something different and let people know about it. Give them a reason to choose your company over your competitors.

6) Be relevant. Talk to your prospects in your advertising - let them know that you feel their pain and are going to help them make it go away. If you're talking about something they can't relate to, they'll ignore you. There are way too many advertising messages in the world today - and people have learned to tune them out unless they click with something that is important to them. You know how this works - you do the same thing.

If you're sick of how your car is nickel & dimming you lately, you suddenly are much more aware of ads for cars. Find out why people buy your product and talk about how you will give that to them. It's really pretty simple - but an overwhelming majority of businesses totally miss this.

7) Make sure you know what you're trying to get your prospect to do. Do you want them to come to your store and buy a specific product? Or do you want them to call your business to get an estimate on a project so your sales person can close the sale in person? The more specific you are in your call to action (please make sure to include one!), the more likely your audience will do what you want them to do.

All of the elements that go into your advertising - the media, the creative, the copywriting, the call to action - create a synergistic result. The more focused you are with any of those elements, the better your results will be. It's always crucial to measure your ad results. Determine what you want to achieve and include devices that will allow you to determine whether or not you achieved your goal. Then you can tweak results from there.
