How do i introduce my little chihuahua into a home with a cat?

I just got a baby girl chihuahua and i already have a small cat. The chihuahua is a lot smaller then the cat. How do I introduce the two so they can become friends?

My Chi's grew up with 2 adult male cats. JUst let them meet and keep an eye on them for a while. You'll know if there's an issue. It'll depend on the cat. They'll probably end up playing together within the hour. They'll either ignore each other or they'll follow each other around and sleep together sometimes and play together.

Keeping Your Chihuahua Warm

If you've ever been around Chihuahuas before, then you've probably seen them shiver and shake from being cold. The fact is that they get cold much easier than other dog breeds. However, keeping your Chihuahua warm is fairly simple if you use some common sense and follow some of the tips I suggest.

If your wondering why the Chihuahua breed gets colder than other dogs, it's because of their origin. The Chihuahua originated in the humid, warm climate of Chihuahua, Mexico. When they lived there, they didn't have much need for a thick coat or a defensive mechanism from the cold. However, once they ended up in other places across the world, they became vulnerable to the cold. In addition, because they are so small (actually the smallest breed in the world), their bodies become cold much quicker than the larger breeds do.

Keeping your Chihuahua warm will directly relate to weather and climate you have. Obviously if it's cold or snowing outside, they will need help staying warm. However, if it's warm and sunny, they should be fine.

One of the easiest and most efficient ways of keeping your Chihuahua warm is to buy them a warm shirt or sweater. When it gets cold, you should always make them wear it when they go outside. It will give them an extra layer of insulation between their bodies and the cold, allowing them to stay warm. Just be sure the shirt or sweater is comfortable, warm, and fits their body properly. If it is the wrong size, it can be uncomfortable for your Chihuahua to wear.

Another important method of keeping your Chihuahua warm is to be sure they don't stay wet when it's cold outside. If it's raining, or even snowing, their tiny little bodies can become drenched within minutes. This can cause their bodies to become very cold, very quickly. Take a towel and dry off your Chihuahua as soon as they come inside. If it's snowing outside, you may even want to shovel a path in the yard, so your Chihuahua doesn't have to walk in the cold snow.

Those are the best methods to use for the outside, but what about inside the home? Well, if you don't know by now, Chihuahuas love to burrow in blankets. It's in their nature to do so. So, get some warm blankets, make a nice area in their bed to sleep in, and lay some out in the living room. You may not see your Chihuahua for a while, but you will know they are warm when they are burrowed underneath the covers!

There are many owners who don't take the time to help keep their Chihuahuas warm. They think it's not their problem. However, as owners it's up to us to take care of them and give them a healthy and happy life.

How do I tell if my chihuahua is pregnant?

My almost 2 year old chihuahua came into heat over 2 weeks ago. She finally got stuck to a male chihuahua last Wednesday and then got stuck together about 4 times a day from Wednesday til Sunday. What are the possibilites that she got pregnant? How will I be able to tell? Thank you so much for any help!
My chihuahua was free. My mother in law breeds them and gave me her (pick of the liter). We aren't selling our chihuahua puppies. We are giving one of them to one of our friends and if she has another, we will find someone who wants one or keep the other. I don't really expect ours to have but one or maybe 2 because she is so small.

We were only breeding her this one time and having her fixed after she has the puppies to lessen the chance for breast cancer (per our vet).

She may ask you to got to the store for unusual items such as pickles and ice cream.

Can chihuahua that bred with a pitbull survive a pregnancy? Read describition below for more information?

My friend has 2 dogs, a boy pitbull and a girl chihuahua, and well the pitbull basically raped the chihuahua and my friend thinks the chihuahua is pregnant and is scared because thinks the chihuahua won't survive the pregnancy. Can the chihuahua survive or does she need to get the chihuahua an abortion?

Nope. The chihuahua will die. Should have thought about that before she had two intact dogs in the house. She needs to go to the vet, get them both spayed and neutered today.

Be Careful What You Feed Your Chihuahua

Chihuahuas are a huge craze in today's society. In fact, over the last decade the demand for them as pets has grown at an increasingly fast pace. This huge rush for them has led many people to not fully understand all the important aspects of keeping them safe, such as what not to feed your Chihuahua.

For many owners, feeding their Chihuahua table food is a part of their everyday routine. Whether it's the leftover chicken, or maybe some steak, owners often feed their Chihuahua the same foods we consume. While this might seem like typical behavior for some, it can actually be quite dangerous depending on what food they are consuming.

Foods that we eat and don't affect us in an adverse way, may be extremely dangerous and life-threatening to a small Chihuahua. Their bodies are obviously much smaller than a humans, so things they consume affect them to much higher degree.

Before I tell you what foods may be threatening for your Chihuahua, let me first say that it is best to only feed your Chihuahua only dog food. I know it might seem cruel at first, but a regular diet on a premium dog food will help your Chihuahua stay healthy and fit. However, there are certain foods, such as cooked, skinless, boneless beef and chicken.

Some of the most dangerous foods that Chihuahuas can consume are your everyday fruits and vegetables. Tomatoes, grapes, raisins, avocados, apples, and onions can all be life threatening for a Chihuahua. Remember, keep all fruits and vegetables away from your Chihuahuas all the time!

I bet you've probably heard never to feed your dog chocolate, because it can kill them. Well, most chocolate that is in the typical candy will not be life threatening, some chocolate, such as bakers chocolate can cause death for a Chihuahua. This is something you should be sure to keep away from your Chihuahua, even if it's not the dangerous kind.

Not only should you avoid feeding your Chihuahua table food, but you should also not be feeding them bones. That's right, even bones can be dangerous to a Chihuahua. Once a Chihuahua starts chewing on them, they can splinter and cut their insides if they swallow it.

Sticks can be just as bad as bones. If you see your Chihuahua chewing on a stick, stop them immediately. It's best to never let them get in the habit of chewing them.

You can still spoil your Chihuahua once in a while with some cooked, skinless, and boneless beef. Just don't add anything else to add, such as salt and seasoning. Trust me, your Chihuahua will still love it.

Can a chihuahua and australian shepard have babies?

I have a 2 yr old australian sheppard and a 8 month old chihuahua i am wondering if when she goes into heat if my australian shepard will try and get her and if he would get her would it be possible for her to have babies without hurting her……….. We have a vets appointment to get them fixed in october but i am worried until then.

Yes, if she goes into heat the male will try to get to her. He will try very, very, hard, including climbing fences, digging under them, etc. And yes, if he is succesful and she gets pregnant it would be extremely hazardous. Why not see if the vet can't get them in to be fixed a little sooner so you don't have to worry about it. If its not possible, be prepared to keep one or the other crated at all times. Also, be aware that the male may start marking all over the house once she goes into heat, and other intact males in the neighborhood will also try to get to her.
